LIC targets Rs 2 lakh cr premium

The LIC today said the involvement of its housing subsidiary in loan-for-bribes scam will not affect its growth and is targetting premium income in excess of Rs 2,00,000 crore for the current fiscal.
"We are aiming for a total premium income in excess of Rs 2,00,000 crore for the current fiscal with the first premium income of Rs 54,000 crore. We hope to grow about 16-17 percent next year and there is
no impact of the scam," LIC Chairman T S Vijayan said here on the sidelines of the launch of LIC-Aadhar UID cards.
Asked about the report of the high-level committee setup of LIC in the wake of arrests of some LIC and LIC Housing officers by the CBI recently, Vijayan said, "I cannot comment on status of the committee but so far there is nothing wrong".
The high-power committee, with executive directors and heads of departments, are supposed to look into the systems and procedures of LIC investments and recommend measures, if needed.
Unique Identification Authority of India director general R S Sharma said so far three million UID numbers have been issued and in the next four years their target is 600 million.
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who was also present at the function, said this UID project will help in improving the delivery mechanism of social welfare schemes.
